Lackfi János
What are Hungarians like?
Musical guide for the lovers and foreigners
Directed by Czajlik József
What are Hungarians like? Close-mouthed. Lonely cowboys and pub boasters. Bed acrobats but also uncles Gedeons trembling on a chair. Archers shooting backwards, walking with chicken quarters in their plastic bags. Alcoholics. What alcoholics! They drink only as it is needed. Complaining all the time. And choleric. Tripe and pizza lovers. Sitting at the table and banging on it to change the history. In the past they played a really good football, today they only talk about it. If they wanted to kill themselves, they took one Turk down with them. This guidebook will take us to the well-known alien planet, we will find out where the border between Belgium and Hungary is, if Hungarians established the perfect society, if it is true that every Hungarian is able to construct a nuclear bomb and if they are able to lead six horse-drawn machine by standing on a horse. If a spectator can´t decide whether to laugh or cry during the performance, he can do both at the same time.
This performance is inspired by book of János Lackfi: What are Hungarians like? and What else are Hungarians like? Simple, fresh, ludic with grotesquery – Hungarian scenes and Hungarian songs. Hungarian but a lso non Hungarian audience can listen to these Hungarian songs which represent different themes of János Lackfi during the performance.
