Moliére
The Misanthrope
Directed by Czajlik József
The play satirizes current and exciting themes such as freedom of speech, personal autonomy, unstable taste, borders of truth, pitfalls of social life, confusing space between empathy and lack of scruples, between tolerance and cowardice. It shows decomposition of a community joined by common interests, lies or just a simple statistical fact. Alceste always quarrels” with everybody, he never agrees, he has always different opinion about everything, however, he is still a member of a group of friends or „friends“. In his opinion, it´s necessary to tell everyone the truth, what we are thinking about it, directly face to face. To tell criticism all the time is the one and only way to save this rotten world from its total decomposition. To mind the existence to become absolutely hopeless from the point of view of the aesthetical rules. Alcesta takes his friend for weak and a toady, his love for a wife who seduces every man, loves plays without meaning” and abuses her intellectual superiority. The others are even worse. They manoeuvre between moral rules and irregularities, they always prefer the situation more suitable for them. The essential rule is that it is allowed to do everything behind other people´s back, but the most important is not to find out who is spreading which information about whom, who accuses whom.
