The Violet of Montmartre
Operetta in two acts
Directed by László Sándor a.h.
The three talented best friends live in a dark small attic in the heart of Paris at the turn of the centuries. To be a bohemian artist is exciting but not so lucrative: painter, Raoul, writer Henry, composer Florimond know something about it. They are dreaming together that once they will be worldwide known, famous, rich and successful artists. Contrary to their dreams, they are young and poor. And nobody wants to buy anything from their work. Instead of enjoying the life full of creativity, they have only one aim – to survive – if it is possible. So they do not lose heart and they try to drown hunger out by jokes and good mood – this is the first aim. But the reality is that they suffer from hunger, being on the edge of the society and unfulfilled love. Their guests coming to see them are not the maecenas but debt collectors. The only shiny and clear point of the dark reality is an orphan of Montmartre, Violet. Nice, loving, modest Violet is in danger. Her mother wants to sell her. So the three young artists have a big mission – to rescue Violet of Montmartre. They are ready to do it also in the case of being forced to give up their dreams. Thanks to absurd situations and misunderstandings we find out that the best weapon against the cruel, unmerciful world is unselfishness.
