Tragicomedy in Hungarian dialect spoken in Košice in two acts
Directed by Dudás Péter
There is almost no Hungarian theatre that didn’t play this tragicomedy. It was also successful in many European cities. The story is situated in a realistic pub in Hungarian village in Slovakia, in Rešica, where the human characters stayed blocked in a limbo. These characters are presented with caricature and exaggeration. We see a bitter intellectual from the big city coming in here, in this fascinating hopeless world. Immediately, he becomes a part of a love triangle. The central motif of the play Portugal is the desire to leave – everyone would like to escape from disillusive reality. But all efforts come to grief. It is proved once again that the solution is never situated far away in Portugal, but we must find it out deeply inside us.
(the performance is not suitable for children under the age of 12)
